Sir Scallywag and the Golden Underpants

ISBN: 9780141330693

This book made me laugh out loud... Giles Andreae is a master of humorous rhyme (adults... remember Purple Ronnie cards?)

The thing that makes King Colin special is the fact that he has golden underpants, but when these beloved underpants are stolen, King Colin is thrown into a frenzy of disarray.

"I'm lost without my underpants,
My underpants of gold.
And besides, it's rather draughty
And my bottom's getting cold."

He sends for his bravest knight, and up steps Sir Scallywag (who is 6) to save the day.  He rides off to find the undies, but to no avail, and Sir Scallywag fears for his life...

"Disaster!" cried Sir Scallywag.
"What will King Colin do?
He'll probably chop my head off
And then flush it down the loo."

Will the undies be recovered?  Will Sir Scallywag keep his head?  Read this book and find out...

The fabulous rhyme is accompanied by gorgeously cheeky illustrations by Korky Paul (of Winnie the Witch fame.)

Wonder by R.J. Palacio (10 years+)

ISBN: 9780375869020

Wow.  If you read nothing else this year, read this...

This is the blurb.

"I won't describe what I look like. Whatever you're thinking, it's probably worse.

August (Auggie) Pullman was born with a facial deformity that prevented him from going to a mainstream school - until now. He's about to start 5th grade at Beecher Prep, and if you've ever been the new kid then you know how hard that can be. The thing is Auggie's just an ordinary kid, with an extraordinary face. But can he convince his new classmates that he's just like them, despite appearances?"
