For our younger readers there are couple of gorgeous Peter Carnavas picture books to enjoy:
Last Tree in the City finds a small boy mourning the loss of 'his' tree - and then thinking creatively to find a solution to his problem!
Jessica's Box is a lovely tale of the gorgeous Jessica, who is heading off to school and wants to make new friends. With the help of her box, and after a few problems, she eventually discovers how to make a friend.
For fans of the My Story series, we have The Hunger by Carol Drinkwater, all about the potato famine in Ireland in the 1840s.
For our older readers, we have Iris's Ukulele, by Kathy Taylor, which was the winner of the 2011 Tom Fitzgibbon Award. Iris has written a vampire rap, which she intends to perform on her ukulele at the local talent show with her best mate, Sidney. Until, he has a better idea... a glam rock opera. An argument ensues and it looks as though Iris's dreams of winning the $100 prize money and buying her dream ukulele are in tatters.
